Hexham Bluegrass Festival returned again in 2024 with its exciting mix of local, regional, professional and amateur musicians and bands, workshops, dancing, sessions and events in the town. Located at the Bandstand on the Sele next to the Abbey, we again had two stages and an extended offering of fringe events.
In addition to fantastic music in beautiful surroundings, this year the famous Hexham Farmers’ Market was in the market place on Saturday 27th and the town centre was packed.
AThere was an expanded set of fringe events around the town. The weekend kicked off on the Friday with a Hoe Down Ceilidh at the community centre, with a Saturday morning busk in the Queen's Hall foyer to start the music as the main festival site was setting up. A fantastic night at the Tannery with the Kentucky Cow Tippers plus a session in the County Hotel finished up Saturday.
Sunday started off with a workshop at Core Music from Jeri and Ruth, a Clog Dancing workshop was held on the Abbey flags, and Sunday concluded with an Open Moic at the Tannery and a session hsted by the Little Arrow String Band at the the County Hotel.
The festival is 'free'
The first two festivals were free and this continued in 2024. Many thanks to all those who helped keep it this way.
